Why am I doing this?

Why am I running for the US House of Representatives?

There are several reasons.

  1. According to 60 Minutes Dialing for Dollars episode, congresspersons are expected by their party to spend 30 hours per week fundraising.  How can they get anything else done?  I want to fix that:  I pledge to spend no more than 100 hours PER YEAR fundraising (If you like the pledge, let people know by making a $5 donation to my campaign).
  2. I was pushing for an "all hands on deck effort similar to the mobilization for World War II" to reduce fossil fuel use when I ran 8 years ago.  I now believe this has become an existential climate emergency that we must address quickly by implementing the Green New Deal.
  3. Our democracy is coming under assault both internally and from abroad.  We need to aggressively counter enemies of Democracy around the world.  The Chinese Communist Party and Vladimir Putin are the biggest offenders.  Our leaders have been mostly ignoring the problem:  Possibly because those wealthy donors are making money supporting these regimes.
  4. Somebody has to do it and I have always been the kind of person to jump into a void when a job really needs doing.
